The “Vecchia Fornace” of Riccione: Industrial Heritage and Local Memory
Just a short walk from the historical center of Riccione Paese, nestled in a green area, lies the Vecchia Fornace (“Old Kiln”), one of Riccione’s most significant sites of industrial heritage. Once a key center for brick production, it now stands as a symbol of renewal, cultural identity, and sustainable transformation.
A piece of early 20th-century history
Built between the late 1800s and early 1900s, the Vecchia Fornace produced bricks, tiles, and terracotta for the growing building needs of Riccione. As the town developed into a seaside destination, this kiln supplied essential materials crafted and fired with traditional techniques.
An urban park today
Today, the site has been transformed into a public park with greenery, walking paths, and educational spaces. The tall brick chimney, fully restored, towers over the landscape as a local landmark. Although only part of the original building remains, it speaks of Riccione’s working-class roots.
From ruins to regeneration
In recent years, the area has hosted educational projects, cultural events, and guided tours. The Vecchia Fornace is a model of industrial archaeology in dialogue with the city’s future, helping new generations understand their heritage in a dynamic, open-air setting.
