PINOCCHIO
Pinocchio is a fictional character, protagonist of the famous children's novel The Adventures of Pinocchio. Story of a puppet by Carlo Collodi.
Pinocchio was created by Geppetto, a wood carver who wanted to make a puppet for himself.
Although Pinocchio is always referred to as a puppet in the title of the book and throughout the story, this denomination is incorrect, as Pinocchio is actually a marionette (i.e. a wooden puppet that is maneuvered with strings) and not a puppet (which instead is maneuvered from below by inserting your hand inside). For a particular feature, the piece of wood from which he was made is animated, so Pinocchio, even if he is made of wood, behaves like a human being, as he moves by himself, walks, talks, sleeps and eats. .
During the course of the novel he is the protagonist of various transformations: after having promised the Fairy that he will stop being a puppet and want to become a real boy, he runs away with Lucignolo in the "Land of Toys" and ends up transforming, after five months of plenty, into a donkey, ending up in a company of clowns. Later, in the last chapter, Pinocchio, having come out of the dogfish's mouth together with Geppetto, finally stops being a puppet and becomes a boy in the flesh (thanks to the Fairy's intervention in a dream).
Pinocchio's best-known feature is his nose that grows dramatically when he tells lies. Pinocchio is fundamentally good, he has a good heart, naive and innocent, but he often falls into the temptation of getting carried away by bad company and, if asked for explanations, he tends to lie. Because of these characteristics he often finds himself in trouble, from which he always manages to get out, even if with great difficulty.
In addition to the pointed hat and colored tunic, the puppet is often represented wearing a pair of knee-length trousers (known as "pinocchietti").
