CAT DAY
For twenty years now, August 8th has been World Cat Day, established by the International Fund for Animal Welfare, which brings together various animal rights associations.
This day aims to raise people's awareness of the fragility of cats in a difficult month, August, in which many abandonments occur.
The opportunities for care and refuge offered by associations are often put to the test.
A statistic shows that, to date, there are 7.3 million cats in Italian homes.
Italy, after Germany, is the fourth European country with the most cats.
The highest boom in abandonments and returns to kennels and catteries was recorded after the end of the lockdown.
Furthermore, in Italy there is no obligation to register cats in the national registry, in fact for this very reason many cats do not have a microchip and therefore it is not possible to trace them, thus causing an increase in losses and strays.
