FLOWER CARPET - BRUXELLES
The event has been held every two years since 1986 and the first edition was in 1971.
Its creator is the landscape architect Etienne Stautemas, originally from Zottegem and born in 1927; he started making the first carpets using the flower dearest to him, the begonia, resistant to any type of climatic condition.
To create the Brussels Flower Carpet, 1680 square meters of begonias, dahlias and other flowers are used. Everything is made possible thanks to around a hundred volunteers, who in around four hours of intense work bring this magnificent show of colors to life.
To make the event even more evocative and engaging, soundtracks and visuals are used to accompany the spectator's gaze and mind on this splendid journey.
Each edition stands out from the previous ones for its specially composed music and the sound and light shows renewed every evening.
The begonia has always been the privileged flower, this is the only thing that will never change.
